The most requested film for outdoor and drive-in cinemas this year has been the much anticipated sequel to Top Gun, Maverick.  From the cinema release this year, after the 2 year delay due to Covid, the top request has been Maverick for pop-up and drive-in cinemas.  Now, from 31 October 2022 we are pleased to say here at Ellievision AV we can organise your film license for outdoor and drive-in cinemas for Maverick.

We pride ourselves on offering to our pop-up cinema customers film licensing if needed.  We have a feeling that we will be booking Maverick for our customers who hire us to deliver their outdoor cinemas and drive-in cinemas on a regular basis in 2023.

Each year there’s one key film that seems to be very popular.  In the past it’s been Bohemian Rhapsody, The Greatest Showman and for 2023 likely to be Maverick.  The original Top Gun is no longer on embargo from film licensing, so we’re expecting plenty of pop-up cinema and drive-in cinema requests for Top Gun too.

But coming into the Autumn and Halloween period, what are the other key films of the moment for outdoor cinema hirer’s to be requesting?

Here we take a look at the most popular Halloween films for drive-in and pop-up cinemas too.  With so many classic and new film titles to choose from, what would you choose?

1. Corpse Bride (PG, 2005)

Tim Burton Corpse Bride Halloween Movie

The Corpse Bride from Tim Burton is a popular request for spooky outdoor cinemas.  When a shy groom practises his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her. A great movie for adults and children alike.  Tim’s films never disappoint.  We love the use of stop animation.

2. Beetlejuice (15, 1988)

For the teenage audience how about Tim Burtons’s 1988 directed film Beetlejuice.  The plot synopsis focuses on a Yuppie ghost couple (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) in their quaint New England home when it is overrun by trendy New Yorkers?

They decide to hire a freelance “bio-exorcist”; to spook the intruders, but they unwittingly ask for help from a demonic wraith (Michael Keaton) they cannot control, in this comic fantasy that mixes the quick and the dead with a laugh and a fright.

If you’ve not seen it, definitely worth a watch.

3. Scream (18, 1996)

With a great narrative from the start Scream, directed by Wes Craven, has us all thinking about the “rules” for horror movies.  After a series of mysterious deaths befalls their small town, an offbeat group of friends led by Sidney Prescott become the target of a masked killer. As the body count begins to rise, Sidney and her friends find themselves contemplating the “rules” of horror films as they find themselves living in a real-life one.

All the children just love Hotel Transylvania.  It looks fantastic on the big LED screen at a Halloween drive-in cinema.  This is an annual family favourite, with such a loveable cast of characters.  Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count’s teen-aged daughter.  Fun and laughs ensue!

5. The House with Clocks in its Walls (12, 2018)

A more modern family movie, The House with the Clock in its Walls with Jack Black and Kate Blanchet tells the magical adventure of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart.  A little bit of a spine tingler, a great new film for your pop up outdoor cinema.

6. Psycho (15, 1960)

Famed director Alfred Hitchcock‘s iconic horror film Psycho was released in 1960 on 4th August. The film follows a Phoenix secretary Janet Leigh who steals $40,000 from her employer’s client. On the run, she checks into a remote motel run by a young man Anthony Perkins under the domination of his mother.  Famous for its shocking shower scene, the film is a great title for a spooky outdoor screening, particularly with Halloween just around the corner!
